IN GOOD COMPANY

Now I know what rejection feels like. It would have been much easier to take had I thought that the judging committee were a panel of esteemed practising artists who were held in high regard. But this is a village show right, so lets be realistic about the level of art education. My guess would be next to nothing, this isn’t really a criticism of anyone, art is very much a minority interest. I feel quite privileged to have joined the ranks of rejected artists, Van Gogh, Soutine, all the Impressionists and even Guston got clobbered when he abandoned abstraction. You be the judge, below are 1st and 2nd prize, its the same artist and the judges comments are the same for both paintings;'' ‘Stunning, the colours compliment each other’. I am not going to hire a private investigator to examine the relationship between the winner and committee members. Will I enter again next year?, possibly, now I know the game, a pair of stunning sunsets, using all my colours straight from the tube, that should snaffle up the prize money.
